Summary, etc. | The IRA has been leading a guerrilla war against the British forces based in Northern Ireland. This fight continues even behind prison walls where there is permanent confrontation between the British administration and the imprisoned IRA volunteers. Incaceration policies were toughened after 1971 and the internal conflict increased during the 70s reaching its height in 1981 with a hunger strike that lasted seven months during which ten men died. This endless fight had consequences on the inmates, whose reactions sometimes had an influence on their adversaries’ decisions. Prison, considered by the IRA as another means in the fight, was often efficient. |
