520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Slaughters, genocides, ethnocides, ecocides . . . The modern West has used all possible means to establish its world hegemony. And few indigenous peoples have withstood the “triumphant tank of progress.” If “history itself dispenses justice,” then everything leads one to believe that it legitimates the “winners” undertaking. Yet, in the very West, the meeting of the primitive Other early aroused questions about the “human species,” the relativity of the mores, the direction of history . . . Some refusing the Western civilization thus dreamed of a “golden age” situated elsewhere or in a distant past. However, we can reject progressivism without succumbing to the pipe dreams of primitivism. And learn lessons from the concrete experience of the primitives as regards ecology, economy, politics, way of life . . . |
