| Summary, etc. | Quel rôle l’État a-t-il joué dans l’avènement des trajectoires industrielles à l’origine des crises écologiques contemporaines ? Quelle est sa responsabilité dans la formation du gigantisme technicien et la production des déséquilibres naturels aujourd’hui lourds de menaces ? Dans cette contribution consacrée à l’histoire de l’État moderne au tournant du xixe siècle, l’enjeu est à la fois d’explorer les contours de l’État moderne comme acteur historique et son action dans l’acclimatation des nouvelles trajectoires industrielles qui s’amorcent alors. Il s’agit d’étudier comment les États des premières grandes nations industrialisées ont œuvré à lever les obstacles et à faire accepter les crises et les nuisances qui accompagnaient les débuts de l’industrialisation, qu’il s’agisse des pollutions ou des risques sociaux et environnementaux. |

| Summary, etc. | What was role of the state in the advent of industrial trajectories at the origins of contemporary ecological crises? What is the responsibility of the state in the advent of technological gigantism and natural imbalances which pose serious threats today? In this contribution to the history of the modern state at the turn of the 19th century, the challenge is both to explore the modern state boundaries as historical actor and its action in the acclimatization of new industrial trajectories. The goal is to examine how states of the first major industrialized nations have worked to remove obstacles and make the crises and disturbances that accompanied the early industrialization more acceptable, whether pollution or social and environmental risks. |
