| Summary, etc. | Comme lors de la conquête de l’Ouest en Amérique, une « grande frontière » fait avancer ses fronts pionniers. Visant la totalité du monde et toutes les sphères de nos vies, ces fronts font disparaître non seulement les espaces habitables mais aussi notre faculté à habiter. Voilà ce qui se joue dans les combats contre l’extractivisme – l’exploitation industrielle de la nature –, comme dans toutes les luttes concrètes livrées pour préserver des « espaces pour être » : en défendant les marges et les interstices que la « frontière » n’a pas encore complètement annexés, en les faisant échapper, même partiellement et de manière éphémère, à ses dispositifs de capture, elles préservent, au bas mot, des possibilités de vie. |

| Summary, etc. | As during the American conquest of the West, a “great frontier” moves forward. Aiming at the whole world and at all the spheres of our lives, this frontier results not only in the loss of the liveable areas but also of our ability to live. This is what’s at stake in the fights against extractivism—the industrial exploitation of nature—, as in all the concrete struggles conducted to preserve “spaces for being”: by defending the margins and interstices not yet entirely annexed by the “frontier,” by ensuring that these margins and interstices escape, even partially and temporarily, from these capture systems, they preserve, at the least, possibilities of life. |
