Les autrices explorent les dynamiques de quête de reconnaissance et leur articulation à de nouveaux processus d’influence et de professionnalisation visant à contrôler son image et à modifier le regard d’autrui. En se situant à la lisière de la communication publicitaire et conviviale, les influenceurs constituent de nouveaux appareils de production et de diffusion d’un ethos et de représentations sociales susceptibles de contester ou de conforter les attentes de la société. |

Summary, etc. | We conduct analysis of posts from five Instagram accounts of patients with a rare stigmatizing skin condition and we study the reception of these posts by persons suffering from the same affliction. Different strategies of self-exposure are identified. We explore the quest for recognition in relation to new processes of influence aimed at controlling one’s image and modifying perceptions of difference. Through communication strategies which resemble advertising and lifestyle discourse, influencers create new means of producing and disseminating social representations which can contest or validate society’s expectations. |
