| Summary, etc. | As a result of canon formation, esthetical conflicts often arise between the artist and the public. Why did the composer Paul Hindemith (1895-1963) condemn the first version of his opera Cardillac (1926) when he wrote the libretto for the second version 1952, even though the opera of 1926 was a great success and in a way a canonical work ? The particular situation of Hindemith in the first half of the twentieth century and his conception of the role of an artist may explain his position. Nevertheless, the first version is prefered today, against the will of the author. |

| Summary, etc. | Kanonisierungsprozesse können zu ästhetischen Konflikten zwischen Künstler und Publikum führen. Hier werden die Gründe untersucht, aus welchen der Komponist Paul Hindemith (1895-1963) die Aufführung der ersten Fassung seiner Oper Cardillac (1926) zugunsten einer Neufassung ab 1952 verbot, obwohl die Oper von 1926 großen Erfolg beim Publikum hatte und gleichsam sofort kanonisiert wurde. Die besondere Situation Hindemiths in der ersten Hälfte des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts und seine Auffassung der Rolle eines Künstlers können Elemente einer Erklärung liefern. Gegen den Willen des Komponisten setzt sich aber die erste Fassung bis auf heute durch. |
