| Summary, etc. | Le débat sur la transition énergétique se résume malheureusement souvent à une controverse sur la place respective du nucléaire et des énergies renouvelables, et la vitesse de déploiement des véhicules électriques ou de l’hydrogène. Malgré son absence du débat, le sous-sol est pourtant un acteur incontournable pour réussir la transition énergétique, tant pour les ressources indispensables qu’il nous apporte (eau, métaux, énergie…) que les espaces de stockage sûr de CO2, de gaz ou de déchets qu’il permet. Peu ou pas enseigné, le sous-sol reste pourtant méconnu de nos concitoyens et un grand absent du débat politique depuis la fermeture des dernières mines en France. Il est donc urgent de mieux l’enseigner pour le démystifier et lui redonner sa place dans nos choix de société. |

| Summary, etc. | Discussions on the energy transition tend to boil down to a controversy over the respective roles of nuclear and renewable energies, and the speed of deployment of electric vehicles or hydrogen. The role of the subsoil has been entirely ignored in these discussions even though it is in reality a key factor in the success of the energy transition, both for the essential resources it provides (water, metals, energy, etc.) and for the safe storage of CO2, gas and waste that it offers. Rarely if at all a subject of education, most citizens know nothing about the subsoil and it has been largely absent from political discussions since the closure of the last remaining mines in France. There is therefore an urgent need to raise awareness and deepen our knowledge of the subsoil, and integrate it into the choices we make as a society. |
