| Summary, etc. | RÉSUMÉ Afin d’illustrer certains développements des méthodes et des concepts provenant de la théorie de l’attachement, deux études sont brièvement présentées. L’une concerne des parents de bébés nés grands prématurés et l’autre des jeunes toxico-dépendants. Ces études montrent toutes deux que des événements potentiellement traumatisants (menaces quant à la survie dans un cas, exposition à la violence dans l’autre) constituent bien un facteur de risque (difficultés dans l’accès à la parentalité dans un cas, recours à des substances psycho-actives dans l’autre). Pourtant, et c’est la contribution originale de ces études, il semble que ces risques ne deviennent réalité que lorsque de tels événements entraînent une perturbation dans la régulation des émotions, par exemple lorsque les sujets en viennent à exclure défensivement (pour reprendre un terme de Bowlby) tout accès à leurs propres émotions, ou au contraire lorsqu’ils sont submergés par l’irruption d’émotions incontrôlables. Ces phénomènes pourraient empêcher la construction narrative autobiographique, qui permet de donner sens aux événements. |

| Summary, etc. | SUMMARY Attachment and psychopathology Two studies are presented in order to illustrate some recent concepts emanating from the theory of attachment. The first deals with premature born infants and the second with substance abusers. Both studies firstly confirm that the exposure to stressful events (threat of survival in one case, domestic violence in the other) represents a risk for later adjustment (transition to parenthood in one case, substance abuse in the other). Secondly, the original contribution of these studies is to show that such risks may actualize only if these stressful events provoke a disregulation of control strategies, such as defensive exclusion of emotions (according to Bowlby’s definition) or loss of control of overwhelming emotions. Such disregulations might obstruct the construction of autobiographical narratives, which can help to provide an interpretation to these events. |
