| Summary, etc. | RésuméLes enfants avec autisme présentent entre autres spécificités des dysfonctionnements dans la reconnaissance et l’attribution d’expressions faciales émotionnelles. L’objectif de cet article est d’analyser les résultats de 38 enfants âgés de 5 ans et demi à 14 ans 8 mois, répartis en deux groupes : des enfants avec autisme et des enfants typiques qui leur sont appariés en genre et en âge de développement verbal. Deux tâches leur ont été appliquées : une tâche de reconnaissance émotionnelle à partir de photos de visages et une tâche d’attribution d’émotions à partir de scénarios imagés. Les résultats mettent en évidence une absence de différence entre les deux groupes à la première épreuve et des résultats inférieurs dans le groupe d’enfants avec autisme à la deuxième. Ces différences sont discutées en prenant en compte le fait que le développement émotionnel n’est pas un phénomène unitaire et en proposant des pistes de réflexion pour la prise en charge des enfants avec autisme. |

| Summary, etc. | Emotion understanding in children with autism: an investigation from different tasksImpairments displayed by children with autism include deficits in the recognition and attribution of facial expressions of emotion. The aim of this paper is to analyze results obtained with 38 children aged 5 ; 6 to 14 ; 8 years, divided into two groups: children with autism and typically developing children, matched on gender and verbal development. Two tasks were used: emotion recognition, via photographs of faces, and emotion attribution, via images illustrating different scenarios. Results showed that there was no difference between the two groups on the first task, but that children with autism performed more poorly than typical children on the second task. These differences are discussed in the light of the fact that emotional development is not a unitary phenomenon. Proposals for improving current intervention strategies for children with autism are formulated. |
