| Summary, etc. | Cette recherche en sciences sociales porte sur le risque ciguatérique affectant la santé de la population polynésienne. Au regard de l’ensemble de la population mondiale exposée au risque sanitaire ciguatérique, celle de la Polynésie française est dans une situation préoccupante, en raison du nombre de personnes intoxiquées chaque année. L’exposition à ce risque dépend directement de l’écosystème marin, mais aussi des approches différentes des responsabilités individuelles qui varient en fonction des modes de vie, des comportements et des représentations. Cette étude permet donc de comprendre les représentations que se font les Tahitiens du risque ciguatérique, c’est-à-dire leur connaissance, conscience et acceptation du risque sanitaire issu de la consommation de poissons susceptibles d’être infectés, et permet de cerner les facteurs culturels et socioéconomiques qui expliquent et justifient la consommation de poissons potentiellement à risque. |

| Summary, etc. | This social science study focuses on the risk from ciguatera that is affecting the Polynesians’ health. Compared to the global population exposure to ciguatera health risks, the situation of French Polynesia is particularly worrisome, in view of the number of people poisoned each year. Exposure to this risk depends directly on the marine ecosystem, but also on lifestyles and individual responsibilities. This study focuses on the Tahitians’ representations of the ciguatera risk, that is, their knowledge, awareness, and acceptance of the health risk resulting from the consumption of fish likely to be infected. It provides a better understanding of the cultural, social, and economic factors that explain and justify the consumption of potentially at-risk fish. |
