La nouvelle canadienne est hybride et iconique, elle s’appuie sur l’étoffement de l’image pour étayer la crédibilité du récit et conjugue la magie sur le mode néo-fantastique ou néo-gothique et la réécriture du mythe primitif. De la Colombie Britannique aux Provinces Maritimes, d’un océan à l’autre, elle utilise la magie de la représentation et la représentation de la magie pour pallier l’absence et saturer par l’écriture le vide de ses espaces infinis. |

| Summary, etc. | This article postulates a form of consistency underlying the diversity of short stories by different authors in the late twentieth century in Canada by resorting to a near anagram, image and magic, for the purposes of its demonstration. The contemporary Canadian short story is both of a hybrid and iconic nature: it relies on the support of images to reinforce the credibility of its plots, and uses magic both in the neo-fantastic or neo-gothic mode and also through the rewriting of the original myths. From British Columbia to the Maritime Provinces, from one ocean to the other, it uses the magic of representation and the representation of magic to disguise absence and saturate with words the emptiness of its infinite spaces. |
