Il constate que l’agriculteur est dépendant de sa famille, de sa parentèle, des subventions fédérales et du cours des marchés mondiaux. Il montre que les agriculteurs sont loin de correspondre aux paysans « imaginés » par les Suisses. Pourtant, ils jouent encore un rôle crucial dans la construction de l’identité nationale, en incarnant nombre de qualités que le peuple suisse souhaite s’attribuer. |

They play, however, a crucial part in the construction of national identity, because they embody a number of qualities that Swiss people would like to possess. |

Ein Landwirt ist von seiner Familie, seiner Verwandtschaft, den schweizerischen Bundessubventionen sowie dem Gang der Weltwirtschaft abhängig. Obwohl dadurch klar wird, dass Landwirte kaum dem Idealbild entsprechen, welches die Schweizer von den Bauern zeichnen, spielen sie trotzdem eine zentrale Rolle in der Konstruktion der nationalen Identität, weil sie eine ganze Reihe von Eigenschaften verkörpern, in denen sich die Schweizer gut gefallen. |
