| Summary, etc. | RésuméTous les ans, les fans d’Elvis Presley se rendent en pèlerinage à Graceland (Memphis), sur la tombe du chanteur disparu. La semaine du 16 août, date anniversaire de cette disparition, voit se multiplier les commémorations, cérémonies, célébrations diverses rendues à Presley. Celles-ci sont orchestrées par l’Entreprise Presley, qui détient les droits d’exploitation de l’image et du nom Presley et gère le culte du chanteur. Le rite de la Candlelight est certainement l’un des plus spectaculaires hommages rendus à Elvis. En 1997, quelque 30 000 fans ont ainsi pris part, une bougie allumée à la main, à cette longue et lente procession menant à la tombe de Presley, destinée à recevoir les présents et offrandes des participants. Ce rite illustre la ferveur religieuse des fans et l’entretien du culte du chanteur. |

| Summary, etc. | Every year Elvis Presley’s fans go on a pilgrimage to Graceland (Memphis), to the grave of the dead singer. In the week of August 16., the day of Presley’s death, a multitude of commemorations and various ceremonies are organized in his memory. These are orchestrated by the Presley Enterprise that holds the rights to exploit Presley’s image and name and manages the cult of the singer. The rite of the Candlelight is no doubt one of the most spectacular homages paid to Elvis. In 1997 some 30 000 fans, a lighted candle in hand, took part in this long and slow procession to Presley’s grave and deposited there their gifts and offerings. This rite illustrates the fans’ religious fervour and the faculty of the Presley Enterprise to maintain and develop the cult of the singer. |

In der Woche des 16.ten Augusts, des Gedenktages seines Todes, wird eine Vielfalt von Gedenkfeiern und verschiedenen Zeremonien zu Ehren Presleys veranstaltet. Diese werden von dem Presley-Betrieb veranstaltet, der die Nutzungsrechte des Images und Namens Presleys behält und den Sängerskult managt. Sicher ist der Candellight Ritus eine der spektakulärsten Zeremonien, die Presley zu Ehren verantaltet wird. 1997 nahmen ungefähr 30 000 Fans, die eine angezündete Kerze in der Hand hielten, an der langen und langsamen Prozession teil, die zum Grab Presleys führte, um dort ihre Geschenke und Opfergaben niederzulegen.
