Summary, etc. | L’objet de cette recherche, à travers une étude qualitative dyadique (entretiens auprès de directeurs de groupes bancaires et de dirigeants de PME), est d’identifier la nature et le rôle de la capacité de négociation de la PME dans sa relation bancaire de financement. Nous souhaitons démontrer qu’en favorisant l’établissement d’un mode de financement relationnel, le dirigeant de PME consolide son expérience d’interaction et élabore ainsi sa capacité de négociation. L’engagement relationnel du dirigeant de la PME, tout comme l’évaluation de sa capacité de négociation deviennent alors, pour le banquier, un vecteur d’appréciation du risque de défaillance de son client. |

Summary, etc. | Negotiating ability as a factor in banks’ assessment of failure risks for SMEsThis paper reports findings of a study on negotiation capacity for Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SME) and the way the bank manager appreciate their risk of failure. Our study, which examines negotiation capacity of the SME’s owner, suggests that beyond financial criteria, experience of relational interaction is a key point for the bank manager in order to appreciate SME’s risk of failure. |
