| Summary, etc. | Résumé Dans cet article, l'auteur répond à de très violentes critiques qui lui ont été adressées dans un précédent numéro de Genèses par Didier Fassin. Il démonte l'argumentation de son contradicteur, montrant qu?elle n?est pertinente, ni sur le plan social, ni politique, ni clinique. Il s?agit de voir comment l'ethnopsychiatrie moderne pratiquée en France a pris le risque d?une confrontation théorique avec des énoncés considérés évidents tant par certains anthropologues, comme ceux de croyance et d?efficacité symbolique que par certains psychanalystes, comme ceux d?influence ou de suggestion. L?auteur insiste ensuite sur les choix méthodologiques de l'ethnopsychiatrie, s?intéressant plus aux langues qu?au langage, plus aux dispositifs thérapeutiques qu?aux pathologies. L?ethnopsychiatrie met en scène des enjeux politiques en ce sens qu?elle introduit une nouvelle forme de démocratie, de type contradictoire, au sein même du dispositif clinique. Son implantation au sein de l'Université, l'a placée au c?ur d?un débat institutionnel concernant une éventuelle législation de la pratique et de l'enseignement universitaire de la psychothérapie. Enfin l'auteur explicite certains malentendus, concernant notamment le caractère « construit » des appartenances culturelles et explique comment l'ethnopsychiatrie ne se veut pas psychiatrie spécifique pour migrants, mais veut se donner les moyens de saisir l'occasion offerte par la présence des migrants pour repenser la façon dont on comprend et dont on prend en charge le désordre psychologique en Occident. |

| Summary, etc. | In this article, the author replies to very harsh criticism on the part of Didier Fassin in a previous issue of Genèses. He analyses the argument of his contradictor, showing that it is irrelevant from a social, political and clinical standpoint. The issue involves seeing how modern ethnopsychiatry practised in France has taken the risk of making a theoretical comparison between statements considered self-evident by some anthropologists, such as those of belief and of symbolic effect, and others by psychoanalysts, such as those of influence or suggestion. The author then goes on to insist on the methodological choices of ethnopsychiatry, which manifests greater interest in native tongues than in language as such, and in therapeutic approaches rather than pathologies. Ethnopsychiatry brings political stakes into play insofar as it introduces a new form of democracy -open to contradiction- within the clinical approach itself. Its introduction into the university curriculum has placed it at the centre of an institutional debate concerning possible regulation of ethnopsychiatric practise and teaching psychotherapy in the university. Finally, the author brings out certain misunderstandings, particularly concerning how a sense of cultural belonging is ?built up? and explains that ethnopsychiatry is not seeking to be a psychiatry specifically for immigrants workers, but rather wishes to take advantage of the opportunity presented by the presence of immigrants to rethink the way we understand and take charge of psychological disorders in the West. |
