| Summary, etc. | L’habitat intermédiaire pour personnes âgées propose un environnement et des services adaptés aux difficultés liées à l’avancée en âge tout en offrant un logement privé et indépendant. Les promoteurs de ces habitats espèrent ainsi préserver le sentiment du chez-soi, cher aux personnes âgées. En nous intéressant aux éléments constitutifs de ce sentiment, nous remarquons l’importance de l’appropriation pour tout nouvel habitant des espaces collectifs de ces établissements. Un processus de négociation entre le nouvel arrivant et le groupe de résidents s’entreprend afin de définir les règles d’usages des espaces collectifs. Cette négociation fera l’objet de stratégies de part et d’autre des acteurs, mobilisant différentes ressources. Nous montrons ainsi que si, par sa forme et son organisation, l’habitat intermédiaire permet la constitution du sentiment du chez-soi, il ne le garantit pas.À partir d’entretiens et d’observations ethnographiques au sein de Résidences Services Seniors, nous décrivons le processus d’appropriation des espaces collectifs, précisant ainsi le rôle de ces espaces dans la constitution du sentiment du chez-soi en établissement gérontologique. Par ailleurs, la réflexion permet de mieux comprendre ce qu’est un habitat intermédiaire et d’interroger sa spécificité dans le champ de l’habitat pour personnes âgées. |

| Summary, etc. | Senior housing offers security and services to older adults who experience some difficulties related to ageing. At the same time, this type of housing preserves privacy and independent living. Senior housing therefore seems to allow the feeling of home. To examine determinants of feeling at home, we note the importance of the appropriation of community spaces. A process of negotiation between the new resident and the community defines the rules of shared spaces. This negotiation requires various ressources. In consequence, we show that the senior housing can offer the feeling of home but it does not guarantee it.Using interviews and ethnographic observation in eight French Senior Living Communities, we describe the appropriation process of community spaces. We specify the impact of these spaces on the feeling of home. Moreover, this study adds to the literature on senior housing and its place in the field of environmental gerontology. |
