520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | One of the most notable transformations of the Moroccan monarchy from the reign of Sultan and then King Mohammed V (1909-1961) is the depersonalization of the monarchic function: the increasing distinction between the personal and mortal body of the monarch and the immortal and political body of the monarchy. This dissociation aims to ensure a greater longevity of the dynasty and the institution. However, Mohammed V did not fade behind his function. His intense symbolic investment and his personal commitment played a major role in the independence of Morocco. This article explores this apparent paradox by examining the relationship between the individual and his function through three major ceremonies especially the successions to the throne in 1927 and 1961. They allow us to discern, at the intersection of the king's two bodies, the emergence of the “father of independence”. |
