Cet article propose une réflexion sur les modalités de catégorisation du sexe à partir de l’étude des traces du genre dans un registre de population polonais des années 1930. Le repérage précis et systématique et la confrontation de ces traces pose non seulement la question des modalités de construction d’une convention d’équivalence mais aussi de l’intérêt des dissonances, des hiatus et des cas marginaux dans l’analyse sociologique et historique. |

| Summary, etc. | How should one proceed when a survey involves the analysis of apparently gender-blind documents in which sex is neither assigned nor self-reported? This article examines approaches to sex categorization based on the study of traces of gender in a Polish population register of the 1930s. The precise and systematic identification and comparison of these traces raises not only the question of how to construct a convention of equivalence, but also highlights the interest of dissonances, hiatuses and marginal cases in sociological and historical analysis. |
