Summary, etc. | Pestalozzi a d’entrée mis ses pas dans ceux de l’Émile de Rousseau. Mais le praticien qu’il voulait être s’est aussi vite trouvé aux prises avec ce « livre de rêve » auquel il a voulu faire produire un « phénomène ». L’utopie que cultivait à plaisir le Genevois ne pouvait effectivement trouver son passage vers un monde qu’il contestait et vers une pratique qu’il récusait, qu’au prix d’une complète révision de la philosophie qui la sous-tendait. Provoqué par ses échecs, Pestalozzi a dû se soumettre à cette nécessaire transformation. Mais il n’a pas manqué l’essentiel, il l’a même découvert : la déconstruction de la vision utopique de l’Émile a finalement libéré chez lui une volonté d’utopie qu’il n’a plus cessé d’articuler à l’horizon de son action éducative. |

Summary, etc. | Pestalozzi or the will to utopia in education Pestalozzi, from the beginning, walked his footsteps in Rousseau’s Emile. But the practitioner he wanted to be, was soon faced with this « book of dreams » that he wanted to have produced a « phenomenon ». The utopia he cultivated couldn’t effectively find a way through a world he was criticizing and through a practice he objected to, unless he completely revised the underlying philosophy. Due to his failures, Pestalozzi had to surrender to this necessary transformation. But he didn’t miss the essential, he soon discovered it : the deconstruction of the utopian vision of The Emile gave way to his own will to utopia that he never stopped to articulate with his educational action. |
