| Summary, etc. | La culture des professionnels de santé est une composante majeure du fonctionnement des organisations de santé. En raison de leur stabilité supposée, les cultures professionnelles sont souvent considérées comme l’entrave principale à de nombreuses transformations attendues. Une étude des cultures professionnelles dans un établissement militaire montre, au contraire, leur relative plasticité. Alors que les médecins sont généralement caractérisés par leur individualisme et les soignants par leur sens supposé de la communauté, ces traits s’inversent dans l’établissement concerné. L’inflexion des cultures professionnelles semble avoir été rendue possible par une relation d’emploi particulière et une culture locale forte susceptible de surplomber les cultures professionnelles. |

| Summary, etc. | The culture of healthcare professionals is a major component of the working of healthcare organisations. Because of their supposed stability, professional cultures are often considered as the main hindrance to many expected transformations. A study of the professional cultures in a military establishment, on the contrary, shows their relative flexibility. Whereas doctors are usually characterised by their individualism and carers by their supposed sense of community, these traits are reversed in the establishment concerned. This redirection of the professional culture seems to have been made possible by a particular working relationship and a strong local culture liable to override the professional cultures. |
