| Summary, etc. | Plusieurs indices viennent au soutien de l’hypothèse que la carrière de chancelier de Bretagne de Rainaud, évêque de Quimper (†1245) pourrait avoir débuté bien avant l’accession au pouvoir de Pierre de Dreux (1213), contrairement à l’opinion qui prévaut aujourd’hui chez les spécialistes. Si cette hypothèse était confirmée, le rôle joué par Rainaud, outre l’allongement de la durée de ses fonctions, devrait faire l’objet d’une réévaluation en termes de stabilité des institutions du duché et de continuité de la politique ducale ; ce serait également l’occasion de montrer que la littérature hagiographique, en ce qu’elle apparaît souvent comme le reflet de préoccupations idéologiques, peut contribuer à nourrir ce type de conjecture. |

| Summary, etc. | There are several indications supporting the hypothesis that the career of Rainaud bishop of Quimper as chancellor of Brittany († 1245) commenced well in advance of the accession to power of Pierre de Dreux (1213), contrary to the prevailing opinions of experts in the field. The implications of this are significant. In addition to showing that Rainaud had a much longer period in office than previously thought, the role he played can be reassessed both in terms of the stability of institutions in the duchy as well as of the continuity of ducal policy. We also have opportunity to show how hagiographical writings, which often reflect ideological concerns, encourage the same conclusion. |
