| Summary, etc. | RésuméBasé sur une enquête de terrain, cet article relativise l’importance de la présence chinoise dans les deux pays concernés. Comme en Europe, la plupart de ces commerçants font partie de la classe moyenne urbaine chinoise précarisée par la transition. Ils opèrent seuls, sans soutien de l’État chinois ou de son ambassade. Si les filières d’approvisionnement se sont restructurées, les commerçants chinois ne sont pas les seuls ambassadeurs des produits chinois. Les commerçants africains ne sont pas sans ressources face à cette nouvelle concurrence qui reste cantonnée dans un nombre réduit de secteurs. |

| Summary, etc. | Based on a field survey, this article puts into perspective the scale of Chinese presence in these two countries. As in Europe, most of these traders belong to the Chinese urban middle class that has been made more fragile by the economic transition. They operate alone, with no support from the Chinese State or its embassies. Although supply chains have been restructured, Chinese traders are not the only ambassadors of Chinese products. African traders are not without resources vis-à-vis this new competition, which remains confined to a limited number of sectors. |
