| Summary, etc. | RésuméLa France a largement contribué à la naissance des aides publiques au développement au niveau européen. Ce rôle initiateur a en grande partie reposé sur son passé colonial et les relations étroites entretenues avec ses anciennes colonies qui ont contribué à l’émancipation des institutions européennes. Si la France a longtemps justifié son autonomie en matière d’aide publique, elle a dû ajuster ses méthodes aux directives européennes, conduisant bien souvent à des oppositions des instances nationales à l’intégration européenne en matière de développement. |

| Summary, etc. | French Development Aid and Cooperation PolicyFrance played a large part in pushing the idea of European public development aid. Its initiator role largely rested on its colonial past. France’s close relations with its former colonies contributed to European institutions’ developing their own stance on the subject of aid. While France justified its autonomy vis-à-vis public development aid for a long time, it has had to adapt its methods to European Union directives. Very often, this leads to internal opposition toward France’s integration in European development aid matters. |
