Malgré le grand élan vers la consommation de masse, les traditions communautaires restent ancrées et les frontières sont visibles entre des groupes encore définis en termes raciaux en Afrique du Sud. |

To get an idea of these households’ social networks, the author studied lower-middle-class consumption practices vis-à-vis the surrounding informal institutions for socialization and community solidarity. Despite the enthusiasm for mass consumption in South Africa, community traditions remain strong and lines between racial groups remain visible. |
