| Summary, etc. | Les dynamiques urbaines de Douala, la métropole estuaire du Cameroun, interrogent depuis l’indépendance du pays la capacité des politiques urbaines à aménager les occupations foncières, à anticiper les risques, à répondre à la demande en services de base. L’informel réplique en fabriquant des solutions (habitat, transport, marchés) et en construisant de nouvelles centralités. De nouvelles approches de la planification urbaine, plus flexibles et décentralisées, rompant avec les logiques de la planification coloniale et postcoloniale, sont désormais envisagées pour intégrer ces dynamiques et en faire des atouts. |

| Summary, etc. | Ever since the country’s independence, the urban dynamics of Douala, Cameroon’s estuarine metropolis, have been calling into question the ability of urban policies to manage land use, anticipate risks, and meet the demand for basic services. The informal sector is responding by creating solutions (housing, transport, markets) and by building new neighborhoods. New approaches to urban planning that are more flexible and decentralized, and that break with the logic of colonial and postcolonial planning, are now being envisaged as a way of integrating these dynamics and turning them into assets. |
