| Summary, etc. | Depuis le début des années 2000, la médina de Fès au Maroc s’inscrit dans les dynamiques urbaines, sociales et économiques des centres historiques marocains sous l’impulsion d’entrepreneurs occidentaux. Séduits par le cadre de vie et la possibilité de vivre « l’ambiance riad », les anciennes demeures des médinas marocaines sont devenues des biens immobiliers prisés. La plupart de ces entrepreneurs ont choisi de les réhabiliter et de les transformer à des fins touristiques ce qui implique la construction d’un ensemble de liens économiques et sociaux plus ou moins formels avec leur nouvel environnement. À partir du cas des propriétaires français d’établissements touristiques dans la médina de Fès, cet article cherche à comprendre comment leur activité économique conduit à créer de nouveaux rapports avec la société locale en jouant sur différents registres (implication, différenciation, distanciation). Il s’agira d’analyser ces rapports au regard des stratégies d’implantation de ces propriétaires et des stratégies de développement touristique qu’ils mettent en place pour pérenniser leur activité économique. |

| Summary, etc. | With the arrival of foreign investors, a certain urban dynamism, along with economic and social developments, has been experienced in Moroccan historic city centres. The medina (old town) of Fez is an example, since the beginning of the 2000s. Charmed by the environment and the ‘Riad lifestyle’, most European investors have decided to renovate, rehabilitate and potentially transform old traditional medina houses in view of tailoring them to touristic needs, consequently turning them into rather valuable assets. From these initiatives, numerous types of official or informal economic and social networks have emerged. Working on the specific case of French people investing in tourist facilities in the medina of Fez, this article intends to understand how their economic activity impacts on the local society, focusing on different dimensions (involvement, differentiation, distancing). The Authors analyse hese aspects, considering the owners’establishment and tourism development strategies, set up to ensure a sustainable economic activity. |
