L’immigration est au centre de la croissance économique et du développement social du Luxembourg. On retrouve dans le pays d’importants écarts entre certains sous-groupes d’étrangers hautement qualifiés opposés à d’autres moins formés, s’ajoutant aux inégalités socio-économiques déjà présentes dans la population nationale. Dans cet article, nous nous intéressons à l’évolution des inégalités sociales dans un contexte d’immigration, en nous focalisant sur la dimension longitudinale. Nous explorons, avec le dernier recensement national exhaustif, l’évolution des territoires communaux luxembourgeois du point de vue socio-économique pour voir comment les mouvements résidentiels des populations nationales et étrangères ont, dans l’espace social et spatial, suivi ou non la tendance de prospérité qui a marqué le pays dans les dernières décennies. Dans un premier temps, nous construisons une série de portraits descriptifs sur l’évolution des communes à la lumière de la mobilité résidentielle et de l’immigration. Ces portraits montrent que les inégalités sociales et spatiales se sont principalement structurées autour de la capitale et ses communes périurbaines en tant que territoires privilégiés, et le sud comme territoire plus précarisé. Dans un deuxième temps, à travers une série de modèles probabilistes, notre exploration permet d’isoler de manière dynamique l’implication explicite de l’immigration qualifiée et moins qualifiée dans l’évolution des territoires. L’arrivée d’étrangers marque ainsi fortement la structure socio-spatiale du territoire luxembourgeois. |

Immigration is central to Luxembourg’s economic growth and social development. Wide discrepancies are found in the country between certain subgroups of highly qualified foreign settlers and others who have not received higher training. These differences add to socio-economic inequality already present in the national population. This article examines the trends in social inequality in a context of immigration, by focusing on the longitudinal aspects. Using the most recent full national census, the Authors explore the socio-economic changes in Luxembourg’s communal territories to see whether or not and how residential movements of national and foreign populations have, in the social and spatial domain, followed the trend towards prosperity which marked the country over the past decades. First the Authors build a series of descriptive portraits on the changes occurring in the communes in the light of residential mobility and of immigration. These portraits show that the social and spatial inequality are mainly structured round the capital and its peri-urban communes as well-favoured territories, and the south as a territory with more insecurity. Secondly, a series of probabilistic models succeeded in isolating in a dynamic way the explicit involvement of qualified and less qualified immigration in the changes and developments of territories. The arrival of people from abroad is thus having a strong influence on the socio-spatial configuration of Luxemburg territory. |
