| Summary, etc. | «En m'attribuant son prix en sciences économiques, après William Vickrey et John Nash, la fondation Nobel récompense Augustin Cournot pour la troisième fois », déclarait Robert Aumann à l'occasion de la conférence du centre Cournot en 2005, dont ce livre d'hommage au penseur franc-comtois présente les actes.Mathématicien, philosophe, historien des sciences et économiste, Augustin Cournot (1801-1877) rompt avec ses prédécesseurs : sa démarche inaugure en effet la modélisation du social. Cournot ne se contente pas d'appliquer les mathématiques aux phénomènes sociaux, il affirme comme un principe incontournable leur mathématisation. Léon Walras, Stanley Jevons, Alfred Marshall, Gabriel de Tarde, Vilfredo Pareto et Irving Fisher seront les premiers à s'inscrire, à leur manière, dans la filiation cournotienne. La fécondité de la postérité de Cournot ne repose pas seulement sur cette rupture mais aussi sur la richesse d'une oeuvre qui a irrigué les sciences sociales du XXe siècle : théorie des jeux, économie industrielle, théorie des probabilités et statistique, sociologie et critique historique. |
