| Summary, etc. | Il s’agit dans cet article de déterminer l’influence que les événements révolutionnaires ont eus sur la pensée utopiste de Babeuf. Les aspirations à la transformation sociale de ce dernier, qui ne sont pas totalement fixées à la veille de la Révolution, se précisent par étapes à travers son expérience des événements. Babeuf en effet n’est pas un auteur de romans ou de programmes utopiques, mais plutôt un acteur du processus révolutionnaire, animé de motivations égalitaristes radicales. À la fois héritier de cette tradition politico-littéraire et militant sans-culotte, Babeuf par son œuvre politique et pratique imprime à l’histoire de l’utopie un infléchissement décisif, en ce qu’il est le premier à faire de son utopisme un véritable projet politique et un programme d’action. |

| Summary, etc. | This article assesses the influence that revolutionary events had on the utopian thought of Babeuf. The aspirations of Babeuf to transform society, though not entirely formed on the eve of the Revolution, developed by stages through his revolutionary experiences. Indeed, Babeuf was not the author of novels or utopian programs, but rather an actor in the revolutionary process, animated by radical egalitarian ideals. At once the beneficiary of a political and literary tradition and a militant sans-culotte, Babeuf by his political writings and practices gave to the history of utopia a decisive reorientation: he was the first to make utopia into a veritable political program and plan of action. |
