| Summary, etc. | À partir de juin 1940, la France occupée se voit confrontée à la restriction de ses zones de pêche, limitées à trois milles des côtes. La grande pêche souffre particulièrement de ces limitations du fait de l’éloignement des bancs de Terre-Neuve, principalement à Fécamp qui figure au premier rang des ports morutiers français en 1939. Le présent article s’intéresse aux différentes stratégies mises en place, tant par les armateurs que les institutions ou les terre-neuvas eux-mêmes pour subsister lorsque leur horizon maritime traditionnel leur est soudain interdit, et ce jusqu’à la libération de la ville le 2 septembre 1944. Nous nous intéressons d’abord à la voie suivie par l’État français et les armateurs, qui privilégient une pause pour penser la reconstruction de la flotte et le port de Fécamp ; nous analysons ensuite la solution de substitution mauritanienne, nouvel eldorado imposé par l’État français à des armateurs parfois réticents, dans une campagne qui se clôt sur un échec à la fin de 1942 ; nous aborderons enfin les reconversions momentanées des marins dans la petite pêche qui connaît un petit essor durant la période de l’Occupation, ainsi que l’embauche sur les chantiers de l’Organisation Todt, grand pourvoyeur de main-d’œuvre sur les côtes normandes. |

| Summary, etc. | After June 1940, occupied France had to adapt to new fishing zones limited to 3 miles. The high seas fishery, notably that of Fécamp, was particularly struck because it depended on Newfoundland. This article examines how ship-owners and institutions adapted to this new environment until the liberation of the city 2 September 1944. First, we deal with how the government and ship-owners reconstructed their fleet and then how they redirected their efforts, without much success, to Mauritania in 1942. We also examine the reconversion of seamen to coastal fishing and work for the Todt organization, a major local employer. |
