520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The coronation ceremonies of William I in 1066 and Roger II in 1130 each fall under the Royal Sacrament, but both express, from the coronation ritual and artefacts related to it, their claim to rule imperially in their kingdom. For that, they mobilize a multitude of references that they borrowed from the extremely polysemic repertoire of the imperium. By adding them to the coronation ritual, they provide a backing to the ideological syncretism that has marked the minds, beyond any coherence with the reality of their governing practices. The liturgical unity between the Norman kingdoms of England and Sicily allows us to approach simultaneously the differences and similarities between these two ceremonies, during which the marks of imperialism gave rise to the idea that the empire was, for both of them, possible.
