520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Research led on several notary acts from Caen concerning the castle’s inhabitants, cross-referenced with other sources (in particular the garrison’s reports) reveals that the inhabitants were quite mobile, and that some of them had multiple residences. This potential particularity of the Saint-Georges de Caen parish is undoubtedly related in part to the importance of the garrison among the residents. However, studies tend to show that this mobility may have applied less to the arbalesters than it did to the squires, and that we must account for a certain evolution in the recruitment of arbalesters who, just before the arrival of the English, may have been close to the captain, and were busy with activities other than weapon handling. The conquest of the town by the English king in 1417 marked a significant change: the inhabitants of the castle were henceforth almost exclusively English, who were members of the garrison. It was not until after 1450 that civilians made their return (presumably in small numbers) to the castle and recovered their possessions, even if they did not belong to rebel families; the hypothesis put forward is therefore that the English king expelled all of the inhabitants after the conquest.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
