Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The bibliography on the history of the Second World War in Normandy, consisting of more than 3500 works, is largely dominated by the event of the Normandy landings and the Battle of Normandy. Consequently, the history of Upper Normandy, from occupied France to its liberation, is not well documented. During the immediate post-war years, all over France - Normandy was no exception -, witnesses published their war memories in humble leaflets. Paradoxically, while few writings were published, the Cold War saw the release of best-sellers that inscribed, still today, the «myth» of the 6th of June 1944 in the collective imaginary. From the 1980s onwards, the ten-year anniversaries of the D-Day Landings punctuated the editorial production, reaching the peak of an exponential growth on the 50th anniversary. From then on, the works diversified in line with its revival in France. It thus offers new forms and genres, attracting new audiences through the use of a very rich iconography. At the same time, thanks to the opening of archive repositories, parts of the history of the Dark Years were brought to light: the behaviour of the Normans in the face of the occupying forces and their experiences during the military confrontations were the subject of numerous publications.
