| Summary, etc. | M. Edelstein étudie les aspects sociaux et professionnels des administrateurs du département du Haut-Rhin et ceux du district de Belfort en 1790. Il précise les impôts directs et la contribution patriotique des administrateurs. Il compare ses conclusions à celles qu'il a faites pour le département des Landes, seul autre département pour lequel on dispose de données identiques. Les citadins sur-représentés ne sont cependant pas majoritaires. Les hommes de loi sont les plus nombreux, mais ils ne constituent qu'environ un tiers des administrateurs. Les administrateurs du département sont essentiellement des édiles, ils sont largement aisés. Enfin, il faut noter que les administrateurs du Haut-Rhin, région relativement prospère, sont moins aisés que ceux des Landes, département beaucoup moins riche. |

| Summary, etc. | The Haut-Rhin Administrators in 1790 : Social Aspects.M. Edelstein studies the social aspects as well as the professions of the administrators of the département of the Haut-Rhin and those of the district of Belfort in 1790. He states clearly the direct taxes and patriotic gift paid by the administrators. He compares his conclusions to those for the Landes, the only other département for which we have similar information. Although the city-dwellers are overrepresented, they are not a majority. Although the lawyers are in the lead, they only constitute about one-third. The administrators of the département are mainly mayors. Most of the administrators are affluent. It is striking, however, that the Alsatian administrators, from a relatively rich region, are less affluent than those of the Landes, a much poorer département. |
