| Summary, etc. | De plus en plus de travaux en psychologie étudient le fatalisme comme déterminant des comportements dans différents contextes. Toutes les mesures de ce construit ont été développées en langue anglaise, non accessible à la population francophone. La présente étude procède à la validation française de la Multidimensional fatalism measure de Esparza, Wiebe et Quinones (2015) ; la mesure la plus récente du fatalisme. Après traduction et contre-traduction de l’échelle originale, une étude de validation est réalisée auprès de 1630 participants d’Europe et d’Afrique francophone. L’analyse factorielle confirme la structure initiale de l’échelle à 5 facteurs, avec des indices de validité convergente, discriminante et prédictive satisfaisants. Ainsi, la version française de l’échelle multidimensionnelle des croyances fatalistes présente des qualités psychométriques satisfaisantes et peut être utilisée pour mesurer les croyances fatalistes auprès d’une population francophone. |

| Summary, etc. | A growing body of psychological research studies fatalism as a determinant of behavior in different contexts. All measures of this construct have been developed in English, which is not accessible to the French-speaking population. The present study performs the French validation of Esparza, Wiebe, and Quinones’ (2015) Multidimensional fatalism measure, the most recent measure of fatalism. After translation and reverse-translation of the original scale, a validation study was conducted on a sample of 1630 francophones participants from Europe and Africa. The factor analysis confirmed the initial 5-factors structure of the scale, with satisfactory convergent, discriminant and predictive validity indices. Thus, the French version of the multidimensional fatalism measure presents satisfactory psychometric properties and can be used to measure fatalistic beliefs in a French-speaking population. |
