| Summary, etc. | Pareto a consacré une grande partie de son travail à considérer qu’il n’y avait pas de validité scientifique des revendications de « devoir-être », et que l’analyse scientifique ne pouvait conduire à la promotion de certains principes normatifs au détriment d’autres. Pourtant, une partie importante de ses écrits est constituée d’une critique du socialisme et du protectionnisme, et des principes associés à ces deux modes d’organisation sociale. L’objet de cet article est d’essayer de comprendre comment s’articulent ces deux dimensions chez Pareto, afin de mettre en évidence soit la possibilité d’une complémentarité entre les deux points de vue, soit, au contraire, l’existence d’une contradiction. L’article s’orientera plutôt vers cette deuxième éventualité. |

| Summary, etc. | Pareto devoted much of his work to the affirmation that there can be no scientific relevance to any “ought” claim, and that scientific analysis cannot lead to the promotion of certain normative principles to the detriment of others. However, a great deal of his writings consists of a critique of socialism and protectionism, and of the principles that sustain those social arrangements. The purpose of this article is to try to understand how those two perspectives are articulated in Pareto’s work, to highlight either the possibility of a complementarity between the two points of view, or conversely the existence of a contradiction. The article will suggest that the latter is the case. |
