| Summary, etc. | À partir de 24 journaux et livres de raison, cet article se propose d’interroger la manière dont l’année 1792 a pu être vécue par ses protagonistes. Si « vivre la Révolution » a d’abord été « vivre sous la Révolution », la présence du fait révolutionnaire n’en apparaît pas moins continue, sous deux formes au moins : le banal du révolutionnaire et l’extraordinaire du révolutionnaire. Ces journaux révèlent ainsi des existences dont aucune n’a véritablement pu être épargnée par la Révolution. Avec leurs rythmes heurtés, les écritures intimes examinées mettent également en lumière l’existence d’une crise du temps vécu et du temps perçu durant l’été 1792. Elles témoignent enfin d’un sentiment partagé qu’il soit explicité ou qu’il se lise entre les lignes : celui d’avoir basculé dans quelque chose de si radicalement nouveau qu’il fit écrire davantage, ou se taire. |

| Summary, etc. | By using twenty-four private diaries and family-record books, the author of this article examines the way in which the year 1792 was lived and experienced by many contemporaries. If « living the Revolution » had been first a matter of « living under the Revolution », the presence of the revolutionary reality could be sustained under two forms at least : the ordinariness of the revolutionary, and the extraordinariness of the revolutionary. These private diaries delineate experiences that no one could be entirely spared with the Revolution. With their halting rhythms, the intimate writings, here studied, illuminate the experience of crises at once lived and perceived during the Summer of 1792. They testify to shared sentiments, whether explicit or implicit - that of having been thrown into something so radically new that it made one write more, or remain silent. |
