| Summary, etc. | Les vingt dernières années ont vu émerger un véritable champ de recherche francophone consacré à l’étude des conversions religieuses. À de rares exceptions près, ces travaux s’inscrivent dans une sociologie de la sécularisation et de l’identification religieuse ou dans une anthropologie du rapport individuel à Dieu validant le postulat d’un processus croissant d’individualisation, de dérégulation et de désinstitutionnalisation des religiosités contemporaines.Les enquêtes empiriques que j’ai menées sur les processus de conversion au judaïsme m’ont conduit à questionner ce type d’approche. La thèse défendue est double : tout d’abord, les parcours de conversion ne peuvent se comprendre en dehors des entrelacs relationnels à travers lesquels les convertis ne cessent de se construire ; ensuite, le processus formel de conversion reste dans le cas du judaïsme largement normé par les institutions religieuses. La conversion apparaît ainsi comme l’un des lieux possibles de définition, d’énonciation et d’actualisation de la doctrine et des normes religieuses dans un contexte de redéfinition de l’institutionnalité religieuse. |

| Summary, etc. | The last twenty years have seen the emergence of a francophone research area in conversion studies. With few exceptions, these studies are tied to theoretical frameworks of the sociology of secularization and religious identification or the anthropology of the individual relationship with God, which confirm the theoretical postulate of a growing process of individualization, deregulation, and deinstitutionalization of contemporary religiosity.My empirical observations about the process of conversion to Judaism led me to question the effectiveness of such approaches. The point I make here is twofold: first, the personal journey of conversion cannot be understood outside the structural relationships that continue to shape the identity of the convert; secondly, the formal process of conversion to Judaism remains a very normative process in the hand of religious institutions. Conversion thus appears as a possible way to interpret, testify, and update religious norms and doctrines in a context of redefining religious institutionalism. |
