| Summary, etc. | Les pensées de Husserl et de James semblent partager originairement un même projet descriptif. Elles entendent revenir à la pureté de l’expérience telle que celle-ci est donnée. Cependant elles interprètent cette expérience de façons fort différentes. Ce qui est caractéristique de la phénoménologie, c’est de traiter cette expérience comme nécessairement intentionnelle. Pour elle, l’expérience se soumet donc toujours à une structure formelle : l’intentionnalité. Au contraire James évoluera vers une conception toujours plus contentuelle de l’expérience. En définitive, la phénoménologie et « l’empirisme radical » se séparent sur la base de cette opposition entre une représentation formelle et une représentation matérielle de l’expérience. |

| Summary, etc. | Husserl’s and James’ thoughts seem to share the same descriptive purpose originally. They intend to return to the purity of experience as it is given. The ways in which they interpret this experience, however, are quite different: characteristically, phenomenology deals with the so-called experience as necessarily being ‘intentional’, to the effect that experience always complies with a formal structure: intentionality. On the contrary, James would evolve toward a more and more contentual conception of experience. Phenomenology and ‘radical empiricism’ part on this contrast between a material and a formal representation of experience eventually. |
