| Summary, etc. | A la fin des années 50, Merleau-Ponty cherche à dévoiler le sens ontologique caché de la science contemporaine. Il peut trouver dans la philosophie de la nature de Whitehead l’ontologie implicite de la physique quantique et de la relativité. Même si son questionnement repose sur les méditations de Husserl et Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty ne trouve pas dans leurs recherches une telle ontologie. Whitehead cependant, comme Husserl et Heidegger, déconstruit l’ontologie moderne. La nature n’est pas d’abord natura, mais φύσις. L’idée whiteheadienne de la nature comme passage et l’idée de procès correspondent à ce concept de nature. La déconstruction de l’idée classique de nature, d’une nature sans vie, conduit aussi à une méditation portant sur la nature vivante. A la fin de sa vie, Merleau-Ponty explore ainsi les limites de la phénoménologie: Whitehead et sa méditation sur la nature et la vie, à partir de la science, contribue à cette exploration. |

| Summary, etc. | At the end of the 50’s, Merleau-Ponty tried to discover the hidden and ontological meaning of contemporaneous sciences. In Whitehead’s philosophy of nature, Merleau-Ponty was looking for this implicit ontology of the theory of relativity and quantic physics. Even if his questions were based on Husserl and Heidegger’s meditations, Merleau-Ponty did not find such an ontology in their research. Like Husserl and Heidegger, Whitehead deconstructed modern ontology. Nature is not before natura, but is φύσις. Whitehead’s idea of nature as passage and the idea of the process corresponded to this concept of nature. The deconstruction of the classical idea of nature, lifeless nature, led also to a meditation of nature as being alive. At the end of his life, Merleau-Ponty explored the limits of phenomenology: Whitehead and his meditation on nature and life, based on science, contributed to this exploration. |
