| Summary, etc. | En 1893 s’était tenu à Chicago, en marge de l’exposition universelle, un Parlement des religions qui avait réuni des représentants des principales religions du monde. En 1895, un petit groupe de catholiques, sous l’impulsion de l’abbé Félix Klein, envisagea de renouveler l’expérience à l’occasion de l’Exposition universelle prévue à Paris en 1900. Cette initiative, dont l’abbé Victor Charbonnel devint le principal promoteur, se heurta à une forte hostilité qui fit échouer le projet. L’étude des débats autour de cet échec permet d’éclairer à la fois les tensions et les aspirations religieuses de la France des années 1890, et ce projet d’un congrès des religions à Paris mérite d’être interrogé comme la dernière utopie religieuse du xixe siècle. |

| Summary, etc. | In 1893, a Parliament of Religions was held in Chicago, on the sidelines of the Universal Exhibition, which brought together representatives of the main religions of the world. In 1895, a small group of Catholics, under the impetus of Father Félix Klein, planned to renew the experience on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition planned for Paris in 1900. This initiative, of which Father Victor Charbonnel became the main promoter, encountered strong hostility which caused the project to fail. The study of the debates around this failure sheds light on both the tensions and the religious aspirations of France in the 1890s, and this project for a congress of religions in Paris deserves to be examined as the last religious utopia of the 19th century. |
