| Summary, etc. | Depuis 1985, la Bolivie a connu une dérégulation de son économie qui a conduit à la réduction des dépenses fiscales et sociales et à une ouverture commerciale et financière croissante. Toutefois, l’efficience attendue de ces mesures ne s’est pas vérifiée pour la plupart des unités productives boliviennes. Le processus d’urbanisation accélérée accompagnant ce modèle a fait des « petits producteurs » un groupe social urbain prégnant, pour qui l’ « économie de marché » ne signifie rien d’autre que la création de microentreprises individuelles et l’acceptation d’une forte concurrence entre pairs. Face à cette situation, l’ « économie solidaire » témoigne d’une autre stratégie possible de ces mêmes producteurs, qui a su créer certains avantages en s’appuyant sur l’imaginaire de solidarités indiennes. Son caractère fortement minoritaire conduit à s’interroger sur ses possibilités effectives d’expansion. |

| Summary, etc. | “Market economy” and “mutual support economy” : strategies of small-scale Bolivian producers in a deregulated economy Since 1985, Bolivia has been undergoing deregulation of its economy. That process has led to the reduction in fiscal and social expenditure and a growing freedom of trade and financial markets. Nevertheless, for most units of production in Bolivia, the efficiency anticipated as a result of these measures did not materialize. The accelerated process of urbanization coming with this model has made these “small producers” into an impressive urban social group, for whom the “market economy” means nothing other than the creation of individual micro-enterprises and the acceptance of strong competition between peers. Faced with this situation, the “mutual-support economy” brings to light another possible strategy of these same producers, who have been able to create certain advantages on the basis of imaginary conceptions of Indian systems of solidarity. The fact that this is in the extreme minority prompts questions as to its effective possibilities for expansion. |
