| Summary, etc. | À Tanger, les bidonvilles sont minoritaires et en cours d’éradication : le tiers de la population tangéroise vit dans les quartiers non réglementaires bâtis en dur, tandis que les périphéries d’habitat spontané de Casablanca restent majoritairement constituées de bidonvilles (baraques). Cet article tente de mettre en lumière les logiques de fonctionnement des marges urbaines à travers les opérations tendant à leur résorption. Comment la vision gestionnaire de la ville se traduit-elle dans la mise en œuvre des politiques publiques visant l’élimination des bidonvilles ? Dans les espaces urbains tels qu’ils sont projetés, quelle est la place qui revient aux familles évacuées des bidonvilles ? In fine, il s’agit de pointer le décalage existant entre d’une part, le vécu et les aspirations des habitants et d’autre part, les conceptions politiques et les modalités d’action qui prévalent dans les dispositifs de lutte contre l’habitat insalubre. |

| Summary, etc. | On the fringe of the urban fringes : the most recent shanty towns of Tangiers (Morocco). Management logic and functioning of urban margins through shanty town eradication operations In Tangiers, shanty towns are in a minority and are steadily being eradicated : a third of the Tangiers population live in permanent durably-built dwellings in non-regulation quarters, whereas spontaneous peripheral settlements of Casablanca are still mostly in the form of shanty towns. This article attempts to shed light on the systems of logic that govern the way urban margins function by examining the operations geared to further their absorption. How does the city’s management vision become translated into measures to implement public policies aiming at shanty-town elimination ? What is the place accorded to families evacuated from the shanty towns in the urban spaces that are planned ? The study highlights the gap that exists, on the one hand, between the inhabitants’ life experiences and aspirations and, on the other, the prevailing political conceptions and modes of action deployed in programmes to remove insalubrious housing. |
