| Summary, etc. | RésuméComme toutes les anciennes colonies françaises d’Afrique noire, le Niger est entré dans l’ère de la politique moderne au lendemain de la seconde guerre mondiale. Son évolution est intimement liée au débat politique de l’ensemble colonial français. Il a cependant la particularité d’avoir été le seul territoire d’outre-mer à avoir inauguré l’autonomie interne conférée par la loi de réforme institutionnelle dite loi-cadre (ou loi Gaston Defferre) avec une majorité parlementaire et gouvernementale MSA ; de même, il est le seul à avoir échoué dans son choix pour l’« indépendance immédiate » ; il est enfin le premier territoire français où les enjeux politiques de la Ve République française naissante ont conduit à un coup d’État politique, à travers l’« opération Colombani », du nom du gouverneur chargé de faire changer le cours des choses à Niamey. Ce coup d’État politique a entraîné la mise en place d’une équipe plus acquise aux objectifs politiques de Paris et à qui l’indépendance, refusée en 1958, sera octroyée le 3 août 1960. |

| Summary, etc. | Political issues in the Niger Colony (1944-1960)As in all the ex-colonies in French Black Africa, the Niger moved into the world of modem politics at the end of the Second World War and its evolution was closely linked to the political debate throughout the French colonies. But it was the only overseas territory to move towards internai autonomy, as proposed under the framework law for institutional reform (or the Gaston Defferre law), which the parliamentary and governmental majority held by the Mouvement socialiste africain (MSA) advocated. In addition, it was the first territory where political issues in the new French Fifth Republic led to a « coup d’État », known as the « Colombani operation » for the governor who intervened in political affairs in Niamey. This coup d’État led to the installation of a new governmental team more in tune with the French government’s political objectives, to whom independence, refused in 1958, will be granted 3 August 1960. |
