520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Intergenerational relationships under pressure in Burkina Faso The deteriorating conditions of the labour market and the impoverishment of the State do not only hit the productive population alone : they jeopardize also the social security of the elderly. In the urban context of Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, we explore the transformation of intergenerational relationships in two situations : on the one hand, young adults without income supported by their parents, on the other hand, sick elderly people cared for by their grown-up children. This leads to three conclusions : 1. The elderly in the first case, the young adults in the second case, are in danger of impoverishment as a consequence of being overburdened by their families. 2. Today, the elderly fear being excluded from society while the youth fear failing to achieve their integration in society. 3. The strategies set by both generations to fight against their social decline affects their relationships. These three conclusions are gendered.
