Après avoir décrit les principaux types de bois sacrés que l’on trouve dans cette région, étudié leurs fonctions et le lien qu’ils entretiennent avec l’histoire locale, nous analysons les modes de gestion mis en œuvre autour de ces sites, les problèmes posés autour de l’exploitation de leurs ressources et les initiatives de protection menées aujourd’hui dans certaines chefferies. |

| Summary, etc. | Space of politics, space of ritual : the sacred groves of Western Cameroon This paper aims at describing the main features of sacred groves in Western Cameroon and at explaining the major issues standing out in contemporary days. I first describe the two main types of sacred groves existing in this area, and then analyse their socio-political and religious functions. I also analyse the relationship between these sites and local history. This leads to the study of the different ways of managing such sites, the issues emerging around natural resources exploitation and initiatives undertaken to protect these groves. |
