| Summary, etc. | Le Paterikon des Grottes de Kiev, achevé, sous sa forme primitive, dans le premier tiers du xiiie siècle, exploite largement les motifs de l’anabase et de la catabase. Plusieurs passages reprennent le schéma biblique et hagiographique des visions lumineuses reliant le ciel et la terre et prédisant la prospérité et le rayonnement du monastère. D’autres exaltent la réclusion volontaire, l’ascèse troglodytique, qui rappelle l’épisode de la descente du Christ aux Enfers. Cependant, une devotio immoderata (ou immatura) peut induire en tentation et causer la chute du moine trop peu avancé dans son cheminement. Le chapitre 14 donne la clé du Paterikon : c’est par l’abaissement que l’on s’élève vers le ciel et c’est des ténèbres des Grottes que jaillit la Lumière du Salut. |

| Summary, etc. | The Kievan Cave Patericon, completed in its primary form in the first third of the 13th century, makes extensive use of the motifs of the anabasis and the catabasis. Several passages repeat the biblical and hagiographic scheme of luminous visions linking Heaven and Earth and predicting the prosperity and influence of the monastery. Others exalt voluntary seclusion, troglodytic asceticism, which recalls the episode of Christ’s descent into Hell. However, adevotio immoderata (or immatura) can induce temptation and cause the downfall of the monk who is little advanced in his journey. Chapter 14 gives the key to the Paterikon: it is through self-abasement that one rises to. Heaven and it is from the darkness of the Caves that the Light of Salvation springs. |
