| Summary, etc. | Dans l’imaginaire et la religion populaires serbes, les relations de la femme avec le monde du défunt ont un caractère ambivalent. Cette ambiguïté est inscrite à la fois dans le langage, dans les croyances et dans le comportement rituel. Pourtant, la mort et la femme font souvent une dyade indivisible. Dans la plupart des cas, c’est à la femme de s’occuper de la toilette mortuaire, d’aider les familles endeuillées ou d’accomplir les rites de deuil. Par conséquent, la femme est perçue comme quelqu’un plus familier avec « l’Autre monde ». Même son corps représente un phénomène qui personnifie au même temps la vie et la mort, et de nombreux êtres surnaturels qui demeurent dans l’Au-delà sont, dans l’imaginaire populaire, associés à la sphère féminine. Dans cet article, l’auteure se propose d’analyser l’interaction de ces représentations populaires et pratiques religieuses avec la « conceptualisation genrée » du domaine de la mort. |

| Summary, etc. | In Serbian folklore and folk religion, death and women often form an indivisible dyad. This relationship, embedded in language, beliefs and ritual behaviour, however, is quite ambivalent. In the popular imagination, a woman’s body is almost equally associated with life and death, while many supernatural beings who dwell beyond the earth’s plane are linked to the feminine sphere. This paper discusses the interaction of popular representations of women and gendered conceptualization of beliefs and religious practices in relation to death. |
