| Summary, etc. | En 1789, Vincenzo Malacarne avait été nommé à la chaire de chirurgie et obstétrique de l’Université de Pavie, réformé pendant ces années grâce à la monarchie des Habsbourg. Le recrutement de Malacarne avait été aidé par Giovanni Alessandro Brambilla, le puissant protochirurgien impérial et fondateur de l’académie militaire et médico-chirurgicale de Vienne, né près de Pavie. La période d’enseignement de Malacarne à Pavie s’était ouvert sous les meilleurs voeux, mais ses relations avec les collègues de la Faculté de médecine se détériorèrent bientôt. Malacarne, flanquée de Brambilla, entra en collision avec le clinicien allemand et professeur à l’Université de Pavia Johann Peter Frank, célèbre auteur du traité « Police médicale ». Une grave dispute avait éclaté, finie avec le retrait de Malacarne de Pavie. |

| Summary, etc. | In 1789 Vincenzo Malacarne was appointed to the chair of Surgery and Obstetrics at the University of Pavia, reformed in those years thanks to the Habsburg monarchy. Malacarne’s recruitment had been favored thanks to Giovanni Alessandro Brambilla, the powerful imperial proto-surgeon and founder of the military medical-surgical academy in Vienna who was born near Pavia. Malacarne’s teaching period in Pavia opened under the best wishes, but his relations with the colleagues at the Medical Faculty soon deteriorated. Malacarne, flanked by Brambilla, clashed with the German clinician and professor at the Pavia University, Johann Peter Frank, well-known author of the « Medical Police » treatise. A severe dispute broke out, ended with Malacarne’s removal from the Pavia chair. |
