| Summary, etc. | RésuméLa récupération de motifs iconographiques locaux par des acteurs étrangers a contribué à populariser les vingt et une « croix » du Niger en particulier la croix d’Agadez auprès d’un public occidental (et de nos jours bien au-delà puisqu’elles sont reproduites jusqu’à Bali en Indonésie). Les forgerons touareg du Niger se sont également adaptés à cet intérêt nouveau, avec les résultats que des bijoux qui devraient être assez banals au sein de la population touareg soient devenus des emblèmes du monde saharien, et plus largement du Niger. Derrière ces changements de statut des « croix » du Niger émergent les bouleversements socioculturels qu’a subis la société touareg, et les sociétés africaines dans leur ensemble dans le cadre de la colonisation, puis de la mondialisation. |

| Summary, etc. | Cross of Agadez, cross of Niger, western imaginary of the Tuareg worldThe purpose of this article is to show that the recovery of local iconographic motifs by foreign actors has helped popularize the twenty-one “crosses” of Niger, particularly the cross of Agadez, to a western audience (and today far from there). Then, Tuareg blacksmiths from Niger adapted to this new interest, with the result that jewels that should be rather commonplace among the Tuareg population, have become emblems of the Saharan world. Behind these changes of status of the “cross” of Niger, emerging socio-cultural upheavals suffered Tuareg society, and more generally African societies in the context of colonization and globalization. |
